Connexion Bizarre - webzine & webcast updates « Réponse #15 le: décembre 19, 2006, 16:41:09 pm »
Heh, merci!  smiley23

Tor Lundvall - Yule
Dedicated to the spirit of the season this mini album hits the nail on its proverbial head with nine short tracks, varying from small but consistently produced soundscapes to real Christmas songs. Real little sparkling gems for this dark and melancholic time of the year.

Cacophony - Transmissions
One can definitely see the appeal in Cacophony as he picks Power Noise and freely adds elements from various other genres and influences - like gabber, breakcore and computer games - avoiding stereotypical formulas , and doesn't seem afraid of kicking things up a few notches.

Dead Man's Hill - Lakes Of Sacrifice
An album of two halves where, just when you think you have the formula and 'sound' worked out, everything is turned on its head and Dead Man's Hill reinvent themselves and move into entire new realms of dark and disturbing ambience where the album really shines.

V/A - Electric Sheperd: an audio tribute to Philip K. Dick
If any novelist's work lends itself to being memorialised in off-the-wall electronic musical form, it's Phillip K. Dick's. Anyway, if you can't warm to a compilation that features a tongue-in-cheek Rick Deckard voice rapping white-trash style about blowing away replicants, well, what hope is there...?

Samuel Jerónimo "Rima" CD give-away winners

We had 4 copies of "Rima", the latest album by Portuguese Experimental composer Samuel Jerónimo, to give away, courtesy of the Portuguese label , as part of the celebration of the fifth aniversary of this Portuguese electronic music label.
"Rima" was favourably reviewed in Connexion Bizarre and the review may be read [url=reviews/r_samueljeronimo_rima.htm]here
.
"Those who are fans of minimalist composers like Steve Reich will probably find themselves in somewhat famillar territory and will not be easily disappointed. If you find that a lot of the early Minimalist and Drone composers don't have enough going on in their music, Mr. Jerónimo takes it up a notch in just the right way, that it has enough going on to keep it interesting, but without being too chaotic."
The winners of this giveaway were: Boris B. (be), Goko S. (mc), João R. (pt), Ricardo C. (pt)

I can count on one hand the number of compilations I value as actual albums - one of them is Hive's "Fuck". I can now add this new release from Hive's downtempo sister label to that list. Another top quality release from Suspicious Records. Essential for night-time listening.

Loss - You Are What Eats You
"You Are What Eats You" can easily be described as the biggest, most frustrating, cocktease or coitus interruptus to mind-blowing sex that you've ever experienced in your life. That's how good it is. Or bad, depending on perspective.

V/A - Chaos.Lovers
Like most label sampler compilations, it has its high and low points but, overall, it flows quite well. In fact, a bit too well, as some tracks have a tendency to fade into the background, effectively requiring serious attentive listening - for which there is not always oportunity.

Rosewater - Bloodcount
As a single entity, the album is awesome - it only falls a little flat if taken as individual songs - with the first half represents the semi-industrial madness DJs constantly crave, while the second half is a more introspective, emotional journey.

This is shattered music akin to the shattered mind medically described by schizophrenia. Typified by chaotic and unevenly structured beats, the album spans a wide range of influences and sounds. "De Nada" revels in experimental noisiness.
