About this release:
Besides a still expanding 7" and tape release series started in 2009, this is the first edition published in the 12" format by Staalplaat instore imprint Le Petit Mignon! Originally released as a CD in 2013 by Idiosyncratics, this is the 2xLP version of Monno's "Cheval Ouvert", featuring a new artwork by Ben Sanair, housed in an offset double sided 64x64cm multi-fold-out "origami" artwork, sealed by a screen printed band. White & Purple and White & Gold colored vinyls. This edition was cut, folded, assembled and numbered by hand and by the sweat of our brows in a pure DIY spirit! Limited to 319 copies, including download code. Published by Le Petit Mignon and worldwide distributed by Staalplaat.

Press release:
"After sharing the bill with fellow musicians like Knut, Isis, Jesu, Lightning Bolt, Melt Banana, Zu, Asva, Todd, Shit & Shine, Marduk or Tony Conrad on the occasion of the 150+ concerts given over the last years, drummer Marc Fantini, bassist Derek Shirley, electronic musician & vocalist Gilles Aubry and electrified tenor sax maestro Antoine Chessex felt the need to come back to studio work. Results a powerful though dark and introspective piece of pure sonic radicalism. CHEVAL OUVERT immerses the listener into a brutal typhoon of intense abstraction. A wild ride on a furiously galloping horse that finds itself torn into pieces by human destruction. Monolithic stabs of distorted saxophone, infinite loops of electronic madness and the devastating pairing of a melting low-end bass and mammoth-like drums resulting in a rock solid wall of ancestral evoking frequencies."

Credits:

Monno are:
Gilles Aubry: electronics
Antoine Chessex: tenor sax & amps
Marc Fantini: drums
Derek Shirley: bass

Fully Blown Dental Reform - FBDR  (2014)

À écouter en intégralité ici: http://staalplaat.bandcamp.com/album/fbdr

"Fully Blown Dental Reform is the trio of Berlin based expats Danny O'Really, Horacio Pollard (whose split with Norwegian band Staer is simultaneously being released by Le Petit Mignon as well) and Marc Fantini (drummer for Swiss experimental metal outfit Monno). Four long tracks of heavy free noise rock, submerged by bloody, oversaturated screaming guitars and feedback. Wisely executed. Rough. Pure sonic anarchy. Think of 90's cacophonic noise rock bands such as, to name just a few among our favourite ones, Bunny Brains, Bästard, The Dramatics or Sonic Youth, upgrade with much more massive and overwhelming drum sounds and you should slowly get closer to FBDR house door.

Edition of 120 pro-duplicated copies with imprint, housed in a double-sided fold out A3 poster, hand-stamped and numbered, sealed by a strip of Kumihimo cord. Artwork by Insultor. Mixed and mastered by Danny O'Really. Total duration: 48min. Available in navy blue w/ yellow imprint, or in 6 different bi-colour variations with various imprint colours. Includes free download code. Distributed by Staalplaat: http://staalplaat.com/recording/fbdr"

Helaas - The Second To Last Plague  (2014)

À écouter en intégralité ici: http://staalplaat.bandcamp.com/album/the-second-to-last-plague

“New addition to the unpurposely growing list of Le Petit Mignon releases featuring contemporary defunct projects, this time presenting “The Second To Last Plague” by Helaas, a quartet originally founded in Berlin in 2011 by Ratbag (electric guitar), Bex (electroacoustic bass guitar, vocals), Niedowierzanie (cello) and Yvan Volochine (computer).

The release offers two long thrilling pieces, a lava of subtle distorted guitar swells, progressive noise, deep and haunting string sounds and captivating voices. The music of Helaas is here both fierce and calming, a bipolar composition clash between fear and relief. Breathtaking.

Edition of 100 pro-duplicated black cassettes with black imprint, housed in a double-sided fold out A3 poster, hand-stamped and numbered, sealed by a strip of Kumihimo cord. Recorded at N.K, Berlin. Mixed by Bex. Artwork by Insultor. Total duration: 26min. Includes free download code. Distributed by Staalplaat: http://staalplaat.com/recording/the-second-to-last-plague

Staer, Horacio Pollard, Dave 2000 - Staer, Horacio Pollard, Dave 2000 - Split  (2014)

À écouter en intégralité ici: http://staalplaat.bandcamp.com/album/split-5

"Le Petit Mignon presents a new split between hyperactive Norwegian trio Staer and Berlin based Horacio Pollard, visually shaped by French illustrator Dave 2000.

Staer's acid side “Dresden Dynamo” presents an outstanding piece of beefy rocking assault, built-up on elephantine bass rumbles and sustained, psychedelic guitar perforations, the whole carried by a Swiss clock like drums shot. A repetitive yet complex and ambivalent automation composition. The cranes pile up the bricks but the buildings keep falling apart: this is a heavy construction/destruction symphony.

The blast side shows a yet unrevealed face of Horacio Pollard experimental work. Three short pieces assembled together as a constantly growing nightmarish flow. Reminiscences of The Residents blend with cold and slightly dissonant, demonic funky grooves. This is breakdancing music for George A. Romero zombies. Truly, hellishly beautiful stuff.

This release comes as a crystal clear 45rpm 7" with colour labels, housed in a flashy 54 x 18cm full colour 6-panel fold out psycho collage artwork by Dave 2000, printed on 350g thick paper, limited to 200 copies, hand-stamped and numbered. Mastering by Danny O'Really, cut by Rashad Becker at Dubplates, Berlin. Distributed by Staalplaat: http://staalplaat.com/recording/staer-horacio-pollard-dave-2000-split"

Angura: Experimental Art and Music from Japan

Exhibition: Daisuke Ichiba, Yasutoshi Yoshida
Exhibition duration: 15 April - 18 May 2011
Opening + 2 concerts on Friday, April 15th 2011 7pm/19:00
(concerts from 8:30pm/20:30, reservation highly recommended!)

About “Angura- Experimentelle Kunst und Musik aus Japan”:

The event „Angura – Experimental Art And Music From Japan“ is intended as a platform for Japanese underground artists to present their work in Berlin. Angura will feature an exhibition at the gallery Le Petit Mignon in Neukölln as well as a concert at Ausland in Prenzlauer Berg.

The exhibition will be opened on April 15th 2011 in the presence of the artists and end on May 18th. The works on display are by Daisuke Ichiba (drawings) and Yasutoshi Yoshida (collages, drawings). For both artists this will be the first exhibition in Germany. The event is curated by Guillaume Siffert and Christoph Petermann. It was recognized by the Japanese embassy as part of the official program “150 Jahre Freundschaft Deutschland-Japan” celebrating the 150th anniversary of German-Japanese diplomatic relations. The exhibition is being supported by the JaDe foundation.

About the exhibition:

Daisuke Ichibas Daisuke Ichiba has been active as an underground artist since the early nineties. In his images delicate beauty clashes with grotesque violence. “Humans simultaneously combine tenderness and violence. If you peel back the face of a beautiful woman you see it is clogged with viscera. Choosing to create work that is only beautiful feels artificial. Thus I paint both. You cannot sever the two. The expression that results is a natural chaos. In my work I project chaos, anarchy, anxiety, the grotesque, the absurd, and the irrational. By doing so I attain harmony. This is my art. Put simply, I paint humanity (the spirit).” Some of his works have been printed by the renowned French silk-screen publisher Le Dernier Cri.

Yasutoshi Yoshida has been playing music under the moniker of Government Alpha since 1992. It was in this context that he began creating collages inspired by futurism and retro-aesthetics for the cover artwork of his CD releases. Works for other musicians soon followed. 2008 and 2009 his works were first shown in exhibitions in Japan. In 2010 he designed the cover artwork and contributed illustrations to the novel Burn Your Belongings by the American author David Hoenigman, which was published by Jaded Ibis Productions (Seattle). The editors were so impressed by Yoshidas more than 190 illustrations that they decided to release it in full-color, not as originally planned in black and white.

Chouilles / 2 nouveaux Muslimgauze cds
« le: février 25, 2009, 18:26:52 pm »

Artist: Muslimgauze
Title: Sycophant of Purdah
Label: Staalplaat
Cat#: 17491
Code#: archive nine (unreleased material)
Format: Cd digipak
Retail Price in Eur: 13,80

"Part of Staalplaat's ongoing Muslimgauze archive series, Sycophant of Purdah was submitted in 1994 then “replaced” by another master Bryn Jones felt more fit for release. Sycophant then languished in the vaults until present, nearly a decade after Jones' passing. It is no secret that Jones was a prolific artist and that numerous labels combined could not keep up with his output and will take several more years more for them to do so.
Sycophant opens with a radio broadcast on the on-going Palestinian crisis set to breakbeats and marmalade-thick bass lines; the forward to another sonic treatise on struggles of the Muslim world. Tracks that follow are more consistent with Industrial stylings of the Muslimgauze oeuvre including Zealot, Blue Mosque, Silknoose and Izlamaphobia. Industrial, in the context of Muslimgauze, is often characterized by tightly woven percussion loops with scant variance while melodies hover. Additionally,  tracks like “Radif, Avaz And Dastgah” and “Mossad Evil” are another facet of Industrial, Industrial in the classic sense of the word meaning, 'mechanical', 'machine like', with little in the way of melodic overtones. The commonality is rigorous, dogmatic structure that are nonetheless hypnotic and engaging. Because the above albums vary, despite being of the same sub-genre, Sycophant could be considered a 'missing link' that ties them together—with ethno-breaks added for variance. None of the track listings, handwritten by Jones, are repeated on any other release hence Sycophant of Purdah is a 'must have' for fans and collectors." Text by Ibrahim Khider, author of “Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones”

Artist: Muslimgauze
Title: Sulaymaniyah
Label: Staalplaat
Cat#: 17492
Code#: archive seven (unreleased material)
Format: Cd digipak
Retail Price in Eur: 13,80

"Sulaymaniyah is part of Staalplaat's ongoing Muslimgauze archive series, masters originally submitted in 1997, then “replaced” by what became Vampire of Tehran released early in 1998. It was not uncommon for the prolific Bryn Jones to replace masters with what he believed to be a more fit release. Short of two tracks, “Fez Tishan” and “Hamas Pulse of Revenge”, this is Vampire of Tehran with nine additional, unreleased tracks. Because Sulaymaniyah was “replaced”, it was stored in Staalplaat's vault's until a decade after Jones' passing and it will take several more years before they have completely caught up with additional “replaced” and unreleased masters.
Sulaymaniyah is stylistically varied and has ethno-electro, ethno-breakbeat along with several dub cuts. Ethno-electro/breaks are analogous to urban dance/hip hop with catchy, distortion ridden breaks and heavily edited ethnic music, cut-up and reassembled into Frankenstein hybrids—sometimes further complicated with dub elements. Wanton mixtures of styles are one of many defining qualities of Muslimgauze music. Like “replaced” masters, versions of tracks such as “Arabs Improved Zpain” and “Arabs Return Zpain” demonstrate Jones' near obsessive search for the right sound. For those who appreciate the latter, rhythmic ethno-breaks and dub phase of Muslimgauze circa Tandoori Dog, or completists, Sulaymaniyah is a “must have”. Text by Ibrahim Khider, author of “Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones”

What would you get if you were to give three of Europe's more obscure underground comix artists 100% totalitarian freedom to create a collaborative work of oldschool trash art thru' snail mail?
Well, of course you'd see legions of damned midgets wearing vulva-shaped hats with eyeballs for clit, working their sweat off in some weird cyberfactory, where they'd produce a deranged mutant MiKKKey Mou$e-mutoid with a 6,66-foot cock to impregnate serial-produced Dominatrixes in tight leather boots'n'rubber spandex.
You'd get confused Wehrmacht skeletons, with one hand in a 220 Volt plug socket, and the other shootin' up hyperdiesel from an automatic impregnator, whilst touring in a K-mart-shaped UFO thru' the rotten intestines of some bizarre unknown giant.
Of course you'd be seeing miles'n'miles of organic wasteland, with the occasional bloodshed eyeball poppin' out. And you'd get filthy, primitive liquid RAWK!
Yeah, of course you would...
