■ PATRIC CATANI (de) – 'Der Krabbenman' radioplay (in German) + Live set
Patric Catani is one of the most versatile German electronica artists of today. As a snot-nosed 16 year old, Patric started to wreak havoc with his signature hardcore techno, gabber and breakbeat tracks as E-De-Cologne. 1995 saw him swap Cologne for Berlin for new ideas and fresh collaborations. Catani never subjected to the constraints of any genre and is the undisputed master at making swinging style crossovers under many aliases (e.g. Candie Hank, Flex Busterman, Xberg Dhirty6 Cru, EC8OR, Driver & Driver, etc). He also lends his services for (music) theatre productions, TV / film, video games and art projects. Although Patric will also play Live tunes afterwards, this Vrooom centers around his radio play 'Crabman' ('Der Krabbenmann'); a glimpse into the mind of a conspiracy theorist and a humorous revenge on naysayers and impossible ideals.

■ KARL MARX STADT (de)
After slowly stepping back from late nineties hardcore with Society Suckers, Christian Gierden's alter ego Karl Marx Stadt spawned a love for analogue techniques, dub and a stronger emphasis on upbeat melodies. Karl Marx Stadt's Live shows are an amusing blend of energetic Rave style mixing and carefully paced dubbing sessions incorporating circuitbending, synthesizers, children's toys and of course, the universe. This evening Karl Marx Stadt will present new compositions from his label Karl Marx Land; somewhere between “cartoon-reggae, breakdance-Romantik and Eastern European synthesizer pop gymnastics-funk”.

■ WINDRICH & GRENZDÖRFFER (de)
With a strong emphasis on environmental sounds, Kathrin Grenzdörffer's work has made a mark in the field of sound art and performances. For this event, Grenzdörffer will team up with Ekkehard Windrich, with whom she frequently collaborates. In their combined set, Windrich wil send Grenzdörffer's field recording signals through sequencers and samplers.

■ DJ PANDA LASSOW (de)
Panda Lassow traded Dresden for Rotterdam circa 2009. Next to being the label boss of the peculiarly christened Anus Records and a prominent member of The Beatmakers Union (TBMU), vinyl-only DJ Panda Lassow generally plays all types of punchy Bass music; from juke / footwork via hiphop, to dub and future funk.

Which NDW / pop / no wave fan would ever be able to forget the angular groove of ‘Telephon’ or the immortal ‘Wir Bauen Eine Neue Stadt’? Palais Schaumburg is, next to D.A.F. and Der Plan, the most influential Neue Deutsche Welle band from the early eighties. Their sound hasn't lost anything of it's relevance and urgency after three decades. In 2010 Holger Hiller, Thomas Fehlmann, Timo Blunck and Ralf Hertwig decided to breathe new life into the band and it is in this classic line up that they will perform on this evening. Because this event is intended to be more than just a nostalgic trip we also invited newcomers 206 from Leipzig, minimalpunk fueled by big city blues.

PALAIS SCHAUMBURG CANCELLED!

Earlier this afternoon Magnet Musik representing Palais Schaumburg informed us that Holger Hiller (vocals / guitar) will not be able to perform on Saturday, rendering the Palais Schaumburg Live show impossible. Hiller had a cycling accident. Initially he thought he would be ok for the Rotterdam date, but then his condition worsened and during a doctor check up Holger was told he wasn't allowed to perform within the next four weeks because of his injuries. The band is very sorry about this and promises to catch up with a new Rotterdam Live date, likely to be scheduled for fall 2012.

Tickets that are bought online through www.worm.org will remain valid for the new date or will be reimbursed.

We'd like to thank the people who have been supporting us towards the realization and promotion of the event. We're really sorry that this is happening so close to the actual date, as we were really looking forward to this one. Let's hope we can get a new fixed date soon.

SHANGAAN ELECTRO
Shangaan Electro is the street level dance phenomenon from South Africa that went global in 2010 on the back of a series of viral youtube clips and an acclaimed compilation on Honest Jon's that introduced the movers and shakers in this fast emerging micro-genre. Shangaan Electro replaces Shangaan music's traditional instrumentation with midi-keyboard sounds, re-pitched vocal samples and jacking four to the floor beats, then amps things up to breakneck speeds of over 180BPM. This is hyper-kinetic digital dance music custom made for weekly dance offs in Soweto, and it's getting ever faster...

This will be the first time ever Shangaan Electro show in Holland! Based on a Soweto street party, the live show will feature the stars of the Honest Jon's compilation - producer/mastermind and vocalist Nozinja aka 'Dog' and the clown-masked Tshetsha Boys among them - alongside the fastest Shangaan dancers and fast-rising kwaito/house producer and Nozinja affiliate DJ Spoko (co-producer of DJ Mujava's 'Township Funk').

4th edition of our francophonophile special! France continues to surprise us with original, great popmusic. Somewhere in the tradition of Jean-Jacques Perrey through Les Rita Mitsouko all the way to Dat Politics but also further outfield, underground pop soundworlds are pieced together in which peculiarity and (super)natural energy prevails. This time we present: the catchy rock / weirdpunk of CHEVEU, the kosher jew-acid house of MOISHE MOISHE MOISHELE, an Ondes Martenot experiment with JULIE NORMAL and much more.

MOISHE MOISHE MOISHELE
This Parisian trio is the latest music project from Mehdi Shobo Hercberg, Odot Lamm (O.Lamm) and Vincent Tordjman. Located at the exact crossover point (admittedly, not a very crowded junction) between Hasidism and Acid House, Moishe Moishe Moishele is a high-energy Jewish supergroup, capable of racial-national self-caricature. Giving Kraftwerk and YMO a run for their money, their Live show is something to behold, walking the line between satire and celebration. MMM is the brainchild of ShoboShobo, a brilliant artist and illustrator, who among many other things, designed T-shirts for H&M.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeiJn8RhfnM

CHEVEU
The story of Cheveu starts around 2006 with a slew of poop hot releases, gigs and tours. Rounds of applause by critics and audiences followed. One of the highlights was the band performing at 2006's Gonerfest in Memphis, headlining the party with Jay Reatard and Jack Oblivian. In our humble opinion Cheveu is the coolest and most spirited French rock / weirdpunk band right now. Cheveu has been also dubbed the 'harbingers' of the current shitgaze/pop movement (think Tyvek, Pink reason, Times New Viking or TV ghost).

JULIE NORMAL
Following her studio residency in the WORM studio, Strasbourgian Julie Pierrejean will give an exclusive performance with the rare Ondes Martenot: one of the earliest electronic musical instruments made in France. It's eerie, wavering notes are produced by varying the frequency of oscillation in vacuum tubes. It has been mainly used by avant-garde composers such as Messiaen and Varèse but also makes appearances in many popular forms of music.
http://www.myspace.com/ondesmusicales

GREGALDUR
Gregaldur is a brilliant one man act from Cherbourg. His frantic but sugarsweet tunes sound as if played by 8 hands, But it really is just one guy with his guitar, voice and music toys, almost literally tap dancing on his guitar pedals and effects.

Third installment of our cooler than cool 'French do it better' mini fest. Compared with the previous editions (April '08 and '09) the electro / pop will this time less clearly be present. Instead of Bordeaux and Paris, we now take a deep dive into the underground of the northeast of Amiens, Strasbourg and Metz (known as key locations of the so-called 'La Grande Triple Alliance Internationale De L'Est') - an axis of evil filled to the brim with uncompromising lo-fi (weird) punk, R'n'R, and no wave bands. DJ-lubricant between the acts this evening: Dj Albanie (aka Kania Tieffer).

Japanese ear and eyecandy:

SUNDAY 8 NOVEMBER:

- OORUTAICHI
- KISHINO YUICHI
- SHABUSHABU
- MAHO THAIDISCO

WORM - Achterhaven 148, Rotterdam
doors: 20:30
damage: 7 euro
http://agenda.wormweb.nl/agenda.php?id=2801

This Japanese package could not be better. The extravagant music of WORM favorite Oorutaichi is both experimental as resolutely pop. Yuichi's absurdist variety show is a fusion of cabaret, chanson, toothache-sweet easy tune and video. Shabushabu performs a spicy mix of frivolous electronics, quirky hip hop, J-pop and traditional Japanese music. Shabushabu is sidekicked by Maho Thai Disco who got people dancing in the WORM.bar before and was the mini-hit of the zxzw / incubate fest 2008.

OORUTAICHI

Oorutaichi makes drifter music, strung together with expert percussion and electric rays, flowing on a river of magical chants, inspired loops and choruses. It is exalted and resolutely pop. Onstage, Oorutaichi is not chained to his machines but sings with them in a deluge of extravagance and colour. His first album "Yori Yoyo" (2003) was released to much acclaim by Yamatsuka Eye (Boredoms), Juana Molina and others.

KISHINO YUICHI

Kishino Yuichi is no stranger in Rotterdam. The people that witnessed Kishino's loveable Dadaist universe in May 2008 will smile approvingly upon hearing about his return. His ‘La veuve moustache’ show is an highly entertaining collection of cabaret, song, toothache-sweet easy-tune and video. The video images – fragments from Japanese movies – are closely related to Yuichi’s texts and form a theatrical backdrop for his performance. Dressed as a widow, Yuichi and his moustache are provided musical support by pianist Yoko Miura.

http://www.myspace.com/gamakazz

SHABUSHABU

With an album title as ‘All in one Pot’, one might have certain expectations: performer Shabushabu produces obstinate and frivolous sounds. A spicy mix of electronica, hiphop, J-pop and traditional Japanese music. Shabushabu from Kyoto plays for sure in the same league as underground heroes such as Ove-naxx and Oorutaichi (with whom Shabushabu collaborates under the name ‘Obakejaa’).

MAHO THAIDISCO

“She was shocked by THAIDISCO in 2002 tropical summer, they really express Asian good-naturedly chaotic sound well in their music, since then she started to spin Thailand original techno music as MAHO+THAIDISCO.Gradually, she wanted to express her own sounds in her inside. Now instead of being limited to existing THAIDISCO sounds, she creates her own techno sound ,named"ZUNPPA TECHNO", (=ZUNPPA taken from, ?zunzun pappa?one of the words when Japanese people express the rhythm)-Thus, she has progressed through many stages, you can?t miss her ever-lasting energisch sounds!!!!!”

LOS SIQUICOS LITORALEÑOS
worm tour & residency SEPTEMBER 2009

From the outland countryside surrounding the small town Curuzú Cuatiá in the province Corrientes of North East Argentina, comes a exceedingly rare treat for the ears. Los Siquicos Litoraleños is a unique band formed in 2004. Originally an all improvisational freeform band, their music soon developed into an unclassifiable, highly original style incorporating elements of cumbia, subtle noise, lo-fi tape manipulation, chamamé (the popular folk music of Corrientes), the angular guitars of Beefheart's Magic band and a rich variety of non-rock rhythms.

Being a peripheral band living in a semi rural town they remained outsiders to the argentinian rock circuit, even though concerts in Buenos Aires caused a stir amongst local musicians witnessing their often unpredictable shows. These more often than not included extended line ups, performing segments of free music and altered versions of chamame and cumbia tunes from the gaucho dance bands of Curuzu Cuatia. Los Siquicos' sweltering Live shows also display a crucial visual side - the members cloaked in surreal gaucho costumes whilst psychedelic images of cows, fractals, u.f.o´s and the countryside provide a projected backdrop. Locals therefore lovingly dubbed Los Siquicos as 'El Pink Floyd de los pobres' (a poor man's Pink Floyd).

Although their cd-r discography still remains buried in obscurity, the band is rapidly harvesting international acclaim. Amongst their admirers are also the Sublime Frequencies label staff.

Raul Kuku Mente - guitar
Diego Seoane (also performs in Dick El Demasiado) - guitar, bass, electronics
Germancho Nutria Rocha – drums, vocals, guitar

We'll be celebrating our 10th anniversary with the best of what Denmark, Canada and Argentina currently have to offer: BASKETBALL is a new trio from Vancouver packed with driving percussion combined with invigorating electronica and epic vocals. Could be catalogued musically somewhere between Gang Gang Dance, Konono No. 1 and Modeselektor - like sitting up at sunrise playing the old school version of Prince Of Persia with that 15-hour rave still throbbing in your head. The sensational Danish live band ANALOGIK describe themselves as “happy sailor music with a twist of balkan, hip-hop, computer game music, dub, cowboy music, jazz and much more”. To us they sound like a mix between dub, ska, idm, Aavikko, Calexico and JAHTARI's back catalogue. Which brings us to BO MARLEY's '100% Voltage Controlled Reggae roots'. Moreover we have the catchy electronica of LAZERLYDE, and as if that weren't enough we have a film about THE MONKS and our latest addition to the line up is none other than the son of cumbia!

Robust, insolent French underground pop electronica and more! For the past few years the French have been pounding at the gates once more with their own take on pop music. Somehow in the tradition of Jean-Jacques Perrey through Les Rita Mitsouko all the way to Dat Politics but also further outfield, new worlds of sounds are being handcrafted, characterized by plenty of hyperactivity and other forms of (super)natural energy. We are really excited about the line up of Les Petites Différences Marginales numéro deux! Last year's edition was a success and we're determined to do it all over again this year, don't miss this one!

DJ ARC DE TRIOMPHE (Cartilage Records)
Gaspare Balducci is the man behind the fledgling Parisian label Cartilage Records with whom we conspired to dish up tonight's line up. As a dj he is heavily into archiving and spinning the most upbeat, funny and freakish pop music, for which he scans the Globe's outer limits. Balducci also organizes many great parties and events all around France.

TROPIKA MATTA
The link with last year's 'Les Petites Différences Marginales' victors KAP BAMBINO remains intact because KAP BAMBINO's original beatmaker Orion is the ghost producer for Tropika Matta's exhilirating beats and basslines. This Dutch premiere of Captain Matta's off-the-wall dance music and absurd 'ragga-dada' lyrical banter is guaranteed to put a smile on everyone's face!

SCARLATTI GOES ELECTRO
Antoine Souchav - laptop, electronics
Arnaud De Pasquale – harpsichord

Domenico Scarlatti was a brilliant italian composer from the 17th century, who wrote tons of sonatas for the harpsichord. Tonight we'll witness the unique ping-pong battle mix of the Scarlatti sonatas in two different interpretations: the original versions played on a real harpsichord (!), followed by hilarious electronic disco renditions.

TAPETRONIC
Tapetronic is a captivating visual sound performance where creator Alexis Malbert utilizes the manipulated mechanisms of 'ordinary' cassette tape as alternative instruments to challenge the sound of turntable scratching. In the numerical age his lo-fi / high energy show shuns digital tools and celebrates new forms of entertainment.
