ReleaseSavage Ideal - Ghosts Dance Lightly on the Puncheon Floor A brooding analysis of historical landscape... Songs inspired by and dedicated to Southern History. All tracks are largely based around a vast library of found sounds / field recordings gathered during a month long Appalachian sojurn in April, 2008. Sound collage meets post industrial meets folk. Dan Barrett of Worms of the Earth collaborated on / arranged / wrote tracks 1, 9, and 12. Acoustic guitar meets powernoise in Bob Moog's backyard.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/releases.htmReviewsError Response - Zen "Zen" flows immeasurably well, being neither too swift nor too sedate for too long, but rather pooling and cascading in turn, progressing from serene and laidback to taut and wonky, from cut-up and textured to melodic and hopeful. It's juxtapositions like these that give listeners a clue that, with Error Response, Arnold is at the top of his game. The funk, the atmospheres and (especially) the glimmering noir, all executed in a style clean and crisp as freshly minted hundred dollar bills, lend mysterious "Zen" exactly that - meditation, koan, satori...
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmESA - The Immaculate Manipulation A truly magnificent collage of sounds and styles, shifting indeed immaculately through any electronic subgenre worth nodding to, this record is a must have.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmSturqen - Piranha If you're sick of the crashing, numbing beats, and need something more stimulating, Sturqen has what you require. Alternatively, if you've already delved into the possibilities of harder drum'n'bass, such as that of Yuki Tendo, you've come to the right place. "Piranha" is frightening and unconventional but quite brilliant.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmMadeline Puckette - Tsar Bomba (pre-release) Rooted firmly in the synthesized pop sound and DIY underground dance of electroclash, "Tsar Bomba" also reflects Puckette's early riot grrrl leanings and an independent, girl-power aesthetic. Characterized by half-sung/half-spoken vocals and growling synths, the release touches on themes of primacy, jealousy, affluence and diabolic immoderation. Upon further reflection, perhaps that's where the arms race intimations arise after all.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmTonal y Nagual - La Sierra Mecánica The paradox between the charm of the lo-fi delivery and the conventions of what is technically acceptable or desirable in modern music largely permeates "La Sierra Mecánica". Generally, I feel the tunes, lyrics and interesting arrangements win over concerns about poor singing and occasionally clumsy guitar work; the humour, wit and creativity evident throughout make this album something special.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmLolita Terrorist Sounds - Rudiments and Bases for the New Millennium This release will be a favorite of the experimental scene but a little too unique for the mainstream. But this will be the mainstream's loss as this album is brilliant in its simplicity and ability to draw the listener into the fray via arrangements and ambiences.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmVlüba - Live At Erks More than just a record, "Live at Erks" is a spiritual experience which deserves to be listened carefully and in a proper state of mind, in order to fully enjoy the journey it will take you to, a journey which no one can figure out the real destination..
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htm13th Monkey - Redefining the Paradigm of Bang At the end, there's an impression that this is something that would be extremely effective and fun in a packed dancefloor setting (preferably played live). Surely, scene-specific prime DJ material but, for home or casual listening, it will have limited appeal or revisitation potential (unless you're a sucker for 4/4 beats).
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmThe Peoples Republic Of Europe - Babylon The production quality is high, there is an almost overly wide range of styles on display and plenty of interesting sounds and textures are thrown into the mix. Some of the more comedy ideas tend to grate however, and the way they've so desperately thrown themselves at the "scene" does mean that numerous clichés slip through the net, both in terms of sound and imagery.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews.htmVoide - Humachine As a whole, this release shows an artist with promise but lacking the versatility and attention to detail
